Council wants to keep public loos

A move to close 10 public toilets in Derby has been delayed after city leaders were told to find the money to save them.

The city's Liberal Democrat cabinet had earlier decided to shut the public conveniences because maintenance costs were too high.

But a meeting of the full council has instructed the cabinet to find the money in the budget.

Labour leader Chris Williamson said the toilets were a vital service.

He said the city's shopping districts would suffer if there are not sufficient public conveniences.

More than 11,000 people signed a petition to keep the toilets.
